Fortnite Mobile: Failed Attempt?

Game, Mobile / Friday, May 3rd, 2019

Fortnite Battle Royale is one of those rare games where it can be played on pretty much all platforms available and Android is no exception to that. So far Epic Games have managed to launch the game on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android. This alone shows how successful the battle royale title is. With only one exception, of course. That is the Android version of the game. Although Fortnite Mobile on iOS became a hit and the Epic Games have capitalized on it pretty well, Fortnite Mobile on Android didn’t get the same attention as it got on iOS. To understand this we need to go back to early times of the initial release for mobile devices.

Fortnite Battle Royale Mobile initially launched on September 26 2017, exclusively on iOS devices. While iOS users were able to enjoy the game, Android users left out empty handed. It took Epic to come up with the Android version nearly a year after the iOS release. However, Epic didn’t want to publish the game on Play Store as Google cuts a good 30%. Instead of this Epic Games launched the game on their own website.

This was the biggest reason why Fortnite didn’t get much attention on Android devices. Another reason why so many Android users turned down Fortnite Mobile was the compatibility of the game with smartphones. Fortnite on Android required high-end specs and you weren’t able to have access to the game, let alone running it.

After Epic realized it was a mistake to not put the game on the Play Store, it was too late. Everybody has forgotten about Fortnite Mobile on Android and many hardcore mobile gamers don’t even know Fortnite Mobile is available for Android. Also, keep in mind that the Android version of the game is still in the beta process and has been this way for almost a year. Overall, we can say that Fortnite Mobile on Android has been a failed attempt by Epic Games and there is no turning back to this. Even there are many people play the game, the players are constantly troubling with major bugs and performance issues. This doesn’t mean that there is no anticipation for the game, there is but it’s nothing compared to what big videogame companies like Epic expect.
