Fortnite Battle Royale is a completely free-to-play multiplayer game. Unlike some free to play games, there is no pay to win system in Fortnite. Its microtransactions are all cosmetic and don’t benefit the player performance-wise. So far there is a wide range of cosmetic items in the battle royale mode. These cosmetics include outfits, gliders, emotes, harvesting tools, loading screens, anything that you could touch with colors.

Epic Games uses V-Bucks as its currency to make purchases. Roughly 1000 V-Bucks is equivalent to $10. Most skins range usually between 800 to 2000 V-Bucks. The most popular way for players to unlock skins is the Battle Pass. Each season it resets and new items can be unlocked through the 100 level pathway. Players can purchase the Battle Pass for 950 V-Bucks. Also, if desired they can make a purchase that costs them 2800 V-Bucks to unlock the first 25 levels of Battle Pass instantly.

There is always an ongoing rotation within the item shop. The shop uses a system that rotates items each day. After they are lifted off from the store, the items can be re-added in the future at the same price and rarity. Fortnite shop resets at 00:00 UTC each day. Although it mostly rotates every item in the store, occasionally some featured items will be in the store even after the daily reset for a few days or more.
