Epic Games released a new Fortnite skin named Taro. The DeviantArt user Pyro-Zombie and DingDongVG took on Twitter to claim that Epic stoled their artwork to make this skin possible. At first, it didn’t get much attention but their posts and claims continued. After it was shared on a Reddit post a lot of people have stated the obvious for them and gave both of the DeviantArt users credit for this. Ruby Ramirez, an artist from Latin America posted a picture of Taro side by side with a character design uploaded to DeviantArt more than two months earlier. Here is a side by side comparison below.
The similarity between the two is kind of obvious at first glance but there are lots of differences as well. But it doesn’t mean that Epic Games creators have not copied this artwork to come up with the Taro skin. The horned mask and hair are obviously the same and the belt and the shoulder pads are similar. Even the overall color of both resemble each other in many ways.
Erik Kain from Forbes contacted Epic Games about this matter and their reply was ”We take these claims seriously and are in the process of investigating them”
In the past we have seen people suing Epic Games for dance moves but of course, a personal dance move isn’t copyrightable. On the other hand, an artwork is completely different as suing Epic Games for this could actually make some damages to the company and its reputation as well. We don’t know what will happen after this and if Epic creators did really copy the owner of this artwork or was it just a coincidence? It remains unknown for now. We will keep this page updated to bring the news about this matter.
